MANILA — Titan Ultra Giant Risers pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the young PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup, snapping a three-game losing streak with a convincing 105-89 victory over defending champion TNT Tropang 5G on Wednesday night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Import Tirell Brown II delivered a dominant double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds as the Giant Risers finally broke into the win column, improving to 1-3 in Group A while handing the reigning champions their first defeat of the conference.
Joshua Munzon, John Bryan Sajonia, and Jerrick Balanza each contributed 13 points, while Aris Dionisio added 10 as Titan Ultra produced a balanced offensive effort and a stifling defensive performance.
TNT seized an early 31-27 advantage after the opening quarter, but the Giant Risers responded with a commanding second-period surge to overturn the deficit and build a 68-58 halftime lead.
Titan Ultra never relinquished control after the break, extending its advantage to 80-64 at the end of the third quarter before stretching the margin to as many as 22 points in the second half en route to the emphatic victory.
Darius Days paced TNT with 21 points, while Kim Aurin and Roger Pogoy chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively, as the Tropang 5G slipped to 1-1.
Meanwhile, San Miguel Beer continued its blazing start to the conference by fending off Converge FiberXers, 128-122, to remain unbeaten.
Import George King erupted for 41 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Beermen, while Jaymar Perez poured in 31 points in another explosive offensive showing.
Marcio Lassiter finished with 18 points, Celedonio Trollano scored 11, and June Mar Fajardo added 10 as San Miguel improved to a perfect 3-0 record.
Justin Arana scored 29 points to lead Converge, while Justine Baltazar added 16 and Jalen Hudson contributed 15 as the FiberXers absorbed their first loss to fall to 3-1./PN
