MANILA – Negrense Jeffrei Chan could miss at least a month of action for the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings in the 2019 Honda PBA Commissioner’s Cup due to a sprain right ankle.

Even if he is out for at least three to four weeks for the defending champions, the Bacolod City native said he is still thankful that there were no other damages from his injury.

Baka matagalan, masama kasiyung bagsak ng paa,” said Chan. “Initial test pa lang naman ‘yun. Tignan natin next week. Good thing talaga at sprain lang ‘yung injury at walang crack.”

The 36-year-old Chan went down with the injury following the landing spot foul committed on him by Blackwater Elite’s center James Sena last Friday. Chan failed to finish the match.

The Negrense three-point gunner also shared that the small rosary he put whenever his ankle is being taped before the game helped him in preventing more damage from his injury.

“The rosary has protected me from suffering even worse injury,” the former Gilas Pilipinas mainstay said. “But hindi talaga maiwasan ang mga ganyang injury. Pagbagsak ko nandun sa ilalim ng paa.”

Chan will join the list of injured Kings players aside from fellow Negrense Joe Devance and sophomore forward Julian Sargent, who both still do not have a timetable of return to the hard court./PN
