ILOILO City – Be patient if official links provided by public telecommunications entities (PTEs) or telecommunications companies for subscriber identity module (SIM) registration lag or crash.
This is mainly due to the large volume of subscribers who simultaneously attempt to register, explained Atty. Deo Virgil Tan, legal officer of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Region 6.
Many mobile phone users encountered SIM registration glitches yesterday, the first day of the SIM Registration Act rollout.
“Damo abi subscribers naton. We are talking about 150 million to 160 million, and some of them have multiple SIM cards,” Tan said in an exclusive interview with Panay News yesterday.
Here are the links to remember for the SIM card registration:
* for DITO subscribers – https://dito.ph/RegisterDITO
* for Globe subscribers – https://new.globe.com.ph/simreg
* for Smart subscribers – https://smart.com.ph/simreg
“This is Day 1 so expected nga may mga issues. But I guarantee you that the telcos are prepared,” said Tan.
The law gives subscribers 180 days (or six months) beginning yesterday within which to register.
The NTC-6 officer advisds subscribers to check the official social media pages of PTEs from time to time for the latest issuances regarding the registration.
“Basically, i-verify muna if those links are officially for the SIM card registration because damo subong naga-take advantage sang pag-open sang aton nga SIM registration,” Tan cautioned the public against circulating scam links.
SUBSCIBERS’ COMPLAINTS
“Indi mabuksan ang link. Aga pa ako gani nagpa-register sa ginhatag nila nga link pero indi mabuksan,” said Sherene Camacho, a student from Cabatuan, Iloilo.
She decided to postpone registering.
Similarly, Jade Mantilla of Barangay Ungka, Jaro district tried several times to access the link for Globe users but to no avail.
“Hulaton ko na lang mag-okay ang link para hapos mag-register,” said Mantilla.
Netizens also shared their experiences on the first day of SIM card registration.
Mark Dabi said he has been trying to register since 12 midnight.
“Wala pa rin, loading starting at 12 midnight. Ang Globe wala pa, ang DITO wala din,” shared Dabi on the Facebook page of Panay News.
Another netizen, Fred Barro, said out of the three telcos, only DITO had a swift registration process.
“Ang DITO ang bilis. Pero sa Smart at Globe palpak pa sa ngayon,” Barro commented.
Jeneven Bonanciar even went on and directed his complaint to the government.
“Gapatupad lng kmo ka gsto nyu waay nyu na isip mga tao kong anu epikto sa ila mga palak2 waay tupa mga politico mga palak2 (sic),” Bonanciar complained through a comment section on the Facebook page of Panay News./PN
