Global shared services org to open in Iloilo

ILOILO City – Information technology (IT) is taking the modern world by storm, allowing easier access to information and improved standard of living. It also provides a lot of job opportunities.

As testament to the continuing growth of the business process outsourcing (BPO) and shared services industries in the Philippines, many multinational companies have expanded their footprints. They have been the primary source of income of many Filipinos and offer attractive compensation to their workforce.

But industry players are not just looking at overall compensation. There is now a shift in focus to the long-term stability and career progression of employees.

This is the primary reason why the shared services model is now the preferred choice of the talent workforce. Being considered an “in-house” employee provides long-term job security and better career opportunities.

Reed Elsevier, a world leader in professional information solutions, will expand its Manila operations to Iloilo as part of its strategy to deliver improved service to customers.

Reed Elsevier will be the first shared services organization in the region allowing healthier career advancement opportunities, thereby making it a clear choice for talents.

Reed Elsevier will open its second site in the Philippines at the third floor of the Richmonde Tower at the Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao district.

The new facility will cater to different types of skill sets for content editors, content analysts, legal editors (law graduate), customer support representatives, technical support representatives, IT specialists, training specialists, quality specialists, metrics specialists, mandarin/Korean/Spanish CSRs (customer service relations), facilities supervisors, IT supervisors, recruitment specialists, administrative/support specialists, operations supervisors, operations managers, accounts payable specialists and accountants.

Reed Elsevier started its operations in Manila in 2011 with about 60 pioneering team members. With its sustained success, it has now grown to around 1,500 employees.

Armed with the mission of providing better career opportunities for its workforce, Reed Elsevier Philippines will be expanding to Iloilo City, targeting to open their doors on January 2015.

Reed Elsevier has already commenced its recruitment. It held an exclusive job fair from September 1 to 5 at Iloilo City’s Public Employment Service Office.

In deciding to expand their operations outside Metro Manila, Reed Elsevier is confident they can benefit from Iloilo’s large talent pool, being the center of education in Western Visayas.

Reed Elsevier Philippines-Iloilo general manager and director for operations Irwin Jordan Riola also noted Iloilo City’s robust infrastructure and its most noticeable advantage – a business-friendly environment.

SHARED SERVICES ORGANIZATION

Reed Elsevier Philippines is not a BPO company. It is rather categorized as a shared services organization.

Unlike BPO companies, shared services organizations do not execute outsourcing jobs. In other words, they do not partner with different companies to perform the work for them. They, however, act as the global workforce as they employ professionals with expertise on specific fields to provide the best in class service to their customers. More importantly, a shared service organization offers long-term employment and invests on career advancement as a top priority.

Reed Elsevier will be Iloilo’s first shared services organization. The company offers great opportunities by providing competitive overall compensation and benefits package, and more importantly, better career opportunities in securing its employees’ future.

Reed Elsevier invests time in holding various employee engagement activities to build stronger relationships and better camaraderie for its workforce. Reed Elsevier also boasts of its RE Cares program which is centered in community service through various charity activities as their way of giving back to the community.

Iloilo’s first shared services organization will indeed change not only the Information and Communication Technology industry landscape of the city. It will also present greater opportunities to the Ilonggos as it boosts the employment status and attract more talents and help promote a more improved and progressive community.

Be part of this pioneering shared services organization in Iloilo and experience how you can be part of a global company that is Reed Elsevier – the world’s leading provider of information solutions for professionals./PN
