MANILA — Former president and Pampanga congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Friday denied being behind an alleged move to unseat House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III, seeking to quell speculation of internal instability in the House of Representatives and affirming her continued support for the chamber’s leadership.
In a statement posted on social media, Arroyo dismissed claims of a leadership plot within the House of Representatives.
“I categorically deny the allegations concerning the supposed ouster of Speaker Bojie Dy that surfaced yesterday,” Arroyo said.
She also reiterated her continued backing of Dy, emphasizing their long-standing political ties.
“Our mutual support, which began many years ago with his late father, remains unbroken,” she said.
Dy assumed the speakership nearly seven months ago following the resignation of Leyte’s Cong. Martin Romualdez, who was linked to a controversy involving alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
Arroyo, who previously served as House Speaker from 2018 to 2019, has had a long tenure in Congress, representing Pampanga’s 2nd District for multiple terms.
The lawmaker maintained that reports suggesting efforts to unseat the current Speaker are unfounded, as she expressed confidence in Dy’s leadership of the chamber./PN
