MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. stressed that the government’s response to those affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine was never enough.
In an interview on Monday, the Chief Executive said he was not satisfied with how the government responded and they could have done more.
“It’s a terrible tragedy, it’s never enough, I wish we could do more” President Marcos said.
He added: “We’re doing everything that we can, when you lose a life, you lose a life… what can you do about it?”
Severe Tropical Storm Kristine brought torrential rains and violent winds that triggered widespread flooding and landslides, killing at least 145 people, hurting several others, with some still unaccounted.
The storm also caused destruction of property, including immense damage to agriculture and critical infrastructures and lifelines, as well as the disruption of livelihoods and the normal way of life of the people, especially in the affected areas.
Last week, President Marcos has declared November 4 as a Day of National Mourning, in memory of the lives lost during the onslaught of Kristine.
Based on Proclamation 728, the national flag shall be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset on all government buildings and installations across the country and abroad on Monday, in accordance with Republic Act 8941./PN
