BACOLOD City – A Grade 3 pupil drowned while bathing in an irrigation canal in Barangay Dulao, Bago City, Negros Occidental.
Authorities have requested not to identify the victim.
The nine-year-old boy was a resident of the said village.
Based on information given to Bago City police, the victim took a bath at the irrigation canal, possibly as a relief from the current high temperatures being experienced in the area.
He was initially under the supervision of his mother.
The mother, however, left the victim unattended for a few minutes to attend to the needs of her other child, who was inside their home.
When the mother returned, the victim could no longer be seen. A search-and-rescue operation was immediately organized.
The victim was discovered around 2:20 p.m. in Purok Paho of the same barangay, around 1.5 kilometers away from their home.
The child was rushed to the Bago City Hospital for treatment, but doctors were unable to revive the victim./PN
