BACOLOD City — A 14-year-old Grade 8 student sustained minor stab wounds after an altercation with a younger student outside Sum-ag National High School in Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod City on Monday afternoon, June 29.
Based on a police blotter report, the incident happened at around 4:18 p.m. in front of the school.
Police said the victim figured in a commotion with a 12-year-old Grade 7 student, who is being treated as a Child in Conflict with the Law (CICL).
The older student sustained stab wounds on his left arm and left side of his body. Personnel of the Bacolod City Search and Rescue Unit (BASRU) administered first aid before rushing him to a hospital, where his injuries were declared minor.
The 12-year-old student voluntarily surrendered to Police Station 9 later that day.
During initial questioning, the child told investigators that although he and the victim attended the same school, they were not personally acquainted. He claimed the altercation stemmed from teasing and alleged that the victim threw the first punch.
The Grade 7 student further alleged that he picked up an object during the confrontation and used it to injure the victim.
Police are continuing to gather statements from the victim and other witnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, Alma Gustilo of the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) said the city government will provide intervention services to both students.
Gustilo added that the Women and Children Protection Desk of Bacolod City Police Station 9 is conducting a formal investigation into the incident./PN
