NEGROS Occidental – A 23-year-old graduating aeronautics student died in a tragic car-motorcycle collision along Negros South Road in Barangay Mabini, Pulupandan town at around 3:38 a.m. on Sunday, July 6.
The victim, identified as Christian Lord Colindres, a resident of Barangay Zone 7, Pulupandan, was riding a Yamaha motorcycle. The driver of the white Hyundai Accent, a 34-year-old man named Glenn Nermal, is a resident of Barangay Miranda, Hinigaran.
According to Police Lieutenant Rowell Peniero, deputy chief of the Pulupandan Municipal Police Station, Colindres was traveling with two companions, both also on motorcycles. The group was following the Hyundai Accent, which was headed toward the municipality of Valladolid after coming from Bago City.
Initial investigations suggest that both motorcycles, including the one driven by Colindres, attempted to overtake the car but failed, causing Colindres to crash into the rear of Nermal’s car.
A witness reported that Colindres and his companions were speeding.
The crash left Colindres with severe injuries. He was rushed to Valladolid District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. The occupants of the Hyundai Accent were unharmed, though the vehicle sustained significant damage to its rear end.
Peniero confirmed that Colindres had been studying in Manila and had returned to Pulupandan for a vacation. His parents are both overseas Filipino workers.
As of July 7, Nermal remains in the temporary custody of the Pulupandan MPS under an 18-hour reglementary detention. If no case is filed against him, he may be released without any charges./PN
