SAN JOSE, Antique – A graduating student was killed after the motorcycle he was driving overshot a road under construction in Barangay Caridad, Hamtic, Antique.

The 20-year-old Junezen Del Rosario, an information technology student of St. Anthony’s College, was on his way home to this capital town when he figured in the accident at around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Prior to the crash, Del Rosario was in a classmate’s house in Barangay Dangcalan, Hamtic to work on their thesis, police said.

Investigators said Del Rosario’s motorcycle hit a warning device and a bamboo barricade in the area.

Del Rosario fell off the vehicle and slid toward the 1-meter-long steel bars of the unfinished road. One of the bars pierced his stomach and his head slammed on the road’s edge, police added.

Police Officer 2 Rymr Mabaquaio of the Hamtic police station said they found no sign that Del Rosario was drunk.

Rescuers brought Del Rosario to the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital in this capital town where the attending physician pronounced him “dead on arrival.”

“The victim may be in a hurry [to go] home and was sleepy because it’s already late. He may have not noticed that the road was under construction because he was not from this place, and the area was not well lit,” Mabaquiao told Panay News.

Mabaquiao said they will request the contractor of the road project to improve their warning devices and fast-track their work./PN
