ILOILO City – A jail guard was arrested in Barangay 8, San Jose, Antique for unlicensed firearms and an explosive.
Operatives of the San Jose police station raided the house of Prisco Mendoza, a 61-year-old guard of the Antique Provincial Jail, around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to Chief Inspector Juvy Cordero, San Jose police chief, his men secured two search warrants – for illegal gun and drug possession.
No illegal drugs were recovered but cops found the following:
- hand grenade
-
12-gauge shotgun
-
.45 pistol
-
assorted ammunition
“We applied for two search warrants after receiving information that Mendoza was allegedly pushing illegal drugs and owning unlicensed guns and grenade,” said Cordero.
The police chief ordered an investigation.
“We’re suspecting he might be engaged in selling homemade guns or even in the gun-for-hire business,” said Cordero.
Mendoza claimed the recovered firearms were pawned to him by friends, said the police chief.
He did not identify these friends, however, said Cordero.
Mendoza was taken to the San Jose police station. He faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act./PN
