JORDAN, Guimaras – Gov. Samuel Gumarin contracted SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Gumarin himself announced the result of his reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test conducted on June 15.
He decided to take the test after exhibiting flu-like symptoms.
Gumarin, who is diabetic and has hypertension, is currently confined in a private hospital in Iloilo City.
“Medyo may gamay pa ako nga hilanat pero mild man lang kay na-inject na kita sang duha ka doses sang Sinovac,” he said.
The good news is that all his family members, bodyguard and staff were negative for SARS-CoV-2, said Gumarin.
According to the governor, he had no idea where he got the virus.
“Kadamo ‘bi ang aton ginakadtoan. Una, nagkadto kita sa Gegato (funeral parlor) kay nagpa-cremate ako sa akon tiyo. After sina, nagkadto ako sa mga lugar nga medyo tag-as ang (COVID-19) kaso kag naghatag sang bulig ukon mga assistance,” said Gumarin.
He hoped to recover soon so he could resume his duties.
The other day, it was reported that Cong. Ma. Lucille Nava and husband, former congressman Joaquin Carlos Rahman Nava, tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, too.
They immediately had themselves quarantined, according to the former congressman.
The couple – both medical doctors – took a swab test on June 19. The results were released on Saturday night.
They had no idea where they contracted the virus.
The Navas completed their two doses of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine in April yet.
“Kami ni Cong. Lucille bisan diin lang man nagakadto. We cannot avoid kay ti nagakadto kita sa hospital kay nagabulig kita kay Gov. Samuel Gumarin how to manage sa hospital,” said the former congressman who is now the special consultant for hospital concerns of the provincial government of Guimaras./PN
