GUIMARAS — The Guimaras Provincial School Board has recognized the province’s medal-winning athletes in the 2026 Palarong Pambansa and approved the granting of incentives in recognition of their achievements.

The recognition took place during the Provincial School Board’s monthly meeting on June 18 at the Governor’s Office Conference Room, chaired by Gov. Ma. Lucille L. Nava, MD.

The athletes represented Western Visayas in the Palarong Pambansa held from May 24 to 31 in Agusan del Sur and brought home three medals for Guimaras.

Chinie Gardoce captured the silver medal in the girls’ secondary 9-ball billiards event, while Devriel Labordo won silver in the boys’ secondary 100-meter dash and bronze in the 4×100-meter relay. Romy Marquez Jr. earned the bronze medal in the boys’ secondary 52-kilogram wushu sanda event.

Gov. Nava commended the athletes for bringing honor to the province and expressed gratitude to their coaches and the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Guimaras for their continued support and commitment to developing young athletes.

“I would like to thank DepEd for its unwavering support to our athletes. Together with Congressman JC Rahman Nava, we congratulate all of you for giving Guimaras another feather in our cap,” Nava said.

She emphasized that youth and sports development remain among the Provincial Government’s priorities and announced that incentives will be awarded not only to the Palarong Pambansa medalists but also to medal winners from the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA).

The governor said the incentives are intended to recognize the athletes’ achievements and inspire more Guimarasnons to excel in sports while representing the province in regional and national competitions./PN
