JORDAN, Guimaras – A 43-year-old male resident of Barangay Rizal here died of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), announced the municipality’s Rural Health Unit (RHU).
He was Jordan’s and Guimaras’ second pandemic casualty.
The man’s death was confirmed on Oct. 21.
A tricycle driver, he initially complained having difficulty breathing. He was taken to Jordan’s Advanced Primary Quarantine Facility but later transferred to a hospital where he was tested and died.
After his COVID-positive test result came out, the RHU traced his family members for home quarantine and testing.
How the man contracted SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, is yet to be ascertained.
The island province’s first COVID-19 fatality also came from Barangay Rizal, Jordan – a 68-year-old woman who expired on Sept. 22 at the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital.
The woman was diabetic, hypertensive and asthmatic.
As of Oct. 21, Jordan had 42 cumulative COVID-19 cases – six still active, 34 already recovered and two deaths.
Of the six active cases, three were from Barangay San Miguel, one from Barangay Sta. Teresa and two from Barangay Rizal.
Province-wide, Guimaras had 164 cumulative COVID-9 cases as of Oct. 21 – 10 still active, two deaths and the rest already recovered.
