JORDAN, Guimaras – The island province of Guimaras recorded another death due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), its third.
On Nov. 7, a 90-year-old female resident of Barangay Balcon Maravilla here died of the viral disease at the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital (DCGNPH).
The patient was swabbed on Nov. 5 after showing COVID-19 symptoms and her positive test result came out on Nov. 6.
The Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Jordan, however, remained clueless as to how the patient contracted COVID-19. It launched contact tracing immediately.
The two previous COVID-19 deaths in Guimaras were also residents of Jordan.
One was a resident of Barangay Rizal – a 43-year-old male who died on Oct. 21. He was a tricycle driver who initially complained of difficulty breathing.
He was taken to Jordan’s Advanced Primary Quarantine Facility then transferred to DCGNPH where he died.
The other was a 68-year-old woman also from Barangay Rizal. She died at DCGNPH on Sept. 22.
As of Nov. 8, Jordan’s cumulative COVID-19 cases reached 50 (six active, 41 recovered, three dead).
The six active cases were residents of Barangay Poblacion (one), Barangay Balcon Maravilla (one), and Barangay Sta. Teresa (four).
Mayor Ruben Corpuz urged his constituents to follow public health safety protocols and measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 such as wearing facemask and face shield in public, observing physical distancing and washing of hands with soap and water or disinfectant.
He also said all close contacts of COVID-19 cases must immediately observe 14-day quarantine and undergo tests.
“Food packs will be provided by local government units and barangay councils concerned. Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs) may also be contacted,” said Corpuz.
Province-wide as of Nov. 8, Guimaras recorded 190 cumulative COVID-19 cases (20 active, 168 recovered, three dead).
Eight of the active cases came from the municipality of Jordan, seven from San Lorenzo, three from Sibunag, one from Buenavista, and one from Nueva Valencia./PN
