ILOILO City – The 22-year-old man who barged into the Guimaras State University (GSU) campus in Barangay Mclain, Buenavista town and shot dead his former girlfriend was charged before the court on Monday, Jan. 22.
Murder and frustrated murder complaints were filed against Zoilo Sereño of Pulupandan, Negros Occidental before the Guimaras Prosecutor’s Office.
“The criminal cases were already filed against the suspect who is still detained at the Buenavista police station. We are waiting for the court’s order for him to be transferred to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology,” said Colonel Rhea Santos, director of Guimaras Police Provincial Office (GPPO).
Fueled by a mix of jealousy and desperation, Sereño traveled from his hometown in Pulupandan, concealed a caliber .38 revolver upon entering the school campus, and shot Christine Mae Piamonte in the head around 2 p.m. on Jan. 19.
Piamonte, 22, a resident of Barangay Cabungahan, San Lorenzo, Guimaras, died on the spot due to a fatal gunshot wound on the head. Another victim, Ram Arlo Tacubay, 26, also suffered a graze wound on the head and a gunshot injury on the chest.
Tacubay, the musical director of the school’s Palayag Festival, is reportedly the new boyfriend of the victim.
Sereño earlier admitted the crime and that he had no regrets doing it. He said he killed his former girlfriend and wounded Tacubay in a fit of jealousy./PN
