GUIMARAS State College banked on its home court edge to score a 102-88 victory over Sta. Teresa National High School in Game 2 of the National Basketball Training Center-Guimaras leg finals on Wednesday at the Guimaras State College Gym.
Ajie Ferrer led the way with 15 markers, while Kenneth Jayme also contributed double-digit scoring for the Guimaras State, which bounced back from a 70-73 loss in Game 1 last week.
Guimaras State struggled early against the Sta. Teresa to trail 23-24 after the first period and 44-47 at the half before making a huge run in the third canto for a 70-62 advantage.
Guimaras State showed more determination in the final quarter with Ferrer and Jayme leading the way on offense to pull away by as much as 14 markers from the visiting Sta. Teresa.
Alexandro Aurelia finished with 21 points, while June Michael Adorador added 10 points for the Sta. Teresa, which will hope to complete its title run in Game 3 tentatively scheduled on Jan. 18.
The winner of the Sta. Teresa National High and Guimaras State best-of-three championship series will move on to the NBTC regionals against the winner of the Iloilo leg for a chance to play in the National Finals in Manila this summer./PN
