ILOILO City – A suspected gunrunner was arrested in an entrapment operation in Barangay Sto. Niño Sur, Arevalo district.
The 48-year-old Ronilla Gellor was caught selling a .45-caliber pistol (Infinity model with Serial No. 283216) without bullets around 12:50 p.m. on Saturday, police said.
The operation was conducted by personnel of Iloilo City Police Office’s (ICPO) Intelligence Office and Arevalo police station.
The suspect sold the firearm to an undercover officer for P9,000, a police report showed.
According to Police Major Rene Obregon, intelligence chief of the ICPO, they received information about the suspect.
“We have yet to verify if the firearm is original or homemade,” Obregon noted.
The suspect failed to show supporting documents for selling the gun.
Charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) will be filed against the suspect.
Meanwhile, Obregon said the ICPO is intensifying its campaign against loose firearms.
He is also calling the attention of the public and barangay officials to report to them any case of illegal activity./PN
