ILOILO – In a bid to curb coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) transmission, the municipal government of Maasin imposed a month-long ban on the entry of tourists and visitors from out of town.
Mayor Francis Amboy said his local government aims to “safeguard our people against the deadly virus.”
Maasin is one of the municipalities in the province having a few cases of COVID-19.
The restriction began on April 6.
As of this writing, Maasin had 36 confirmed COVID-19 cases – five active, 29 recovered and two dead.
The conduct of public events and large gatherings are also prohibited.
Amboy clarified that those working in the town or those with official transactions shall be granted entry provided “they adhere to minimum health protocols.”
“Our municipal taskforce on COVID-19 is enjoined to conduct the monitoring and implementation of protocol and minimum public health standards at tourist and public areas where large crowds and mass gatherings are likely to occur,” Amboy added.
The mayor’s directive came following the order of Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. banning public gatherings.
