ILOILO City – Last week’s southwest monsoon (habagat) made worse by Typhoon “Fabian” damaged 436 houses in Western Visayas, according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Region 6.
Data (as of 12 noon on July 26) showed 86 houses were totally damaged while 350 were partially destroyed.
Here’s the breakdown of the damaged homes:
* Antique – 24 (11 partially, 13 totally)
* Iloilo – 263 (213 partially, 50 totally)
* Negros Occidental – 12 (11 partially, one totally)
* Iloilo City – 139 (115 partially, 24 totally)
The OCD has yet to receive reports from the provinces of Guimaras and Aklan and Bacolod City.
So far, 612 families composed of 1,149 individuals from 42 barangays in the region were affected.
These included those in Iloilo with 268, Iloilo City (183), Antique (92), and Negros Occidental (69).
The OCD also recorded landslides in six barangays in Tobias Fornier, Antique, two maritime incidents in the said province and 42 flooded barangays in Iloilo City.
The bad weather also caused about P55,000 worth of damage to farm crops in Tobias Fornier.
Flood waters in major river systems are at minimum level, the OCD said.
Due to the habagat, fishing /cargo boats were advised to take caution when venturing out to the sea.
Meanwhile, a situationer report (as of July 25) from the Iloilo City Emergency Operations Center showed strong winds and intermittent rains caused flooding in 18 barangays: Rizal Pala-Pala I, Tanza Esperanza, Zamora, Concepcion, Tanza Timawa II, Flores, Pala-Pala II, Inday, and Tanza Bonifacio in the City Proper; Bonifacio in Arevalo; Sambag and Dungon B in Jaro; Pali- Benedicto, Sta. Rosa, Hibao-an Norte, and Oñate De Leon in Mandurriao; Bo. Obrero, La Puz; and Kasing-kasing, Molo./PN
