ILOILO City – Forty barangays in this southern city were flooded due to heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon or habagat enhanced by Typhoon “Egay.”
As of 4 p.m. yesterday, there were 10 flooded areas in Jaro district, three in Lapuz, 10 in La Paz, one in Molo, three in Arevalo, six in the City Proper, and seven in Mandurriao, data from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) showed.
Moreover, 158 residents were displaced.
Three houses were also totally damaged and 25 were partially damaged.
The CDRRMC, through its Camp Coordination and Camp Management Cluster headed by the City Social Welfare and Development Office, delivered family food packs to the following evacuation centers: Yulo Drive barangay hall in Arevalo; Ortiz barangay hall in the City Proper; Tabuc Suba barangay hall in Jaro; a barangay hall in La Paz; and Airport and Tabucan barangay halls in Mandurriao.
Meanwhile, the Clearing Operations Cluster composed of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, City Engineering Office and Task Force ASIS of the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office conducted clearing operations after seven trees got uprooted.
The City Health Office, on the other hand, distributed prophylaxis for leptospirosis to five district health centers. Also, 595 individuals were given doxycycline./PN
