ILOILO — Hino Motors Philippines (HMP), together with its dealer partner Hino Panay, continues to help transport operators improve driving efficiency, fuel economy, and road safety through its Eco-Driving Training program.

Recently conducted for Leon Transport Service Cooperative (LETRANSCO) and Metro Iloilo Transport Service Cooperative (MITSCOOP), the training focused on practical driving techniques designed to help drivers operate their Hino vehicles more efficiently while promoting safer and more disciplined driving habits.

The results from the training sessions showed measurable improvements in fuel economy, demonstrating how proper driving techniques can translate into significant operational benefits for transport operators.

The improved fuel efficiency showed significant monetary benefits for the participating operators. Based on the training assumptions, LETRANSCO could generate approximately P1.2 million in annual fuel savings, while MITSCOOP could achieve projected savings of approximately P1.01 million and P1.75 million from its two training sessions, respectively.

For LETRANSCO, 22 participants underwent the Eco-Driving Training using the Hino XZU342 PUV Class 2. Following the training, the participants’ average fuel economy improved from 8.78 kilometers per liter to 9.97 kilometers per liter, representing a 14.28% improvement.

Meanwhile, MITSCOOP recorded even more significant gains across two Eco-Driving Training sessions. Thirteen MITSCOOP participants improved their average fuel economy from 8.82 km/l to 10.42 km/l, an 18.38% improvement. The results were even more pronounced during the July 1, 2026 training, where 14 participants improved from 8.04 km/l to 11.16 km/l, equivalent to a 39.85% improvement in fuel economy.

For Hino Motors Philippines president Maki Yamazaki, the results underscore the value of combining reliable vehicles with proper driver knowledge and training.

“At Hino, we believe that our responsibility to customers goes beyond providing reliable and quality vehicles. We also want to help our customers maximize vehicle performance through continuous training and support. The improvements achieved by LETRANSCO and MITSCOOP demonstrate how proper driving practices can make a meaningful difference, not only in fuel efficiency and operating costs, but also in promoting safer and more responsible driving,” said Yamazaki.

The Eco-Driving Training emphasizes practical techniques such as smoother acceleration, proper speed management, anticipation of road conditions, and minimizing unnecessary fuel consumption. These practices are designed to help drivers make more efficient use of their vehicles while maintaining safe driving behavior.

The program also reflects HMP’s commitment to supporting the evolving needs of the Philippine transport industry. By working closely with dealer partners such as Hino Panay, HMP provides customers with after-sales support and training that can help improve the overall efficiency and performance of their operations.

The results from LETRANSCO and MITSCOOP demonstrate that small changes in driving behavior can deliver measurable gains in fuel economy, helping transport operators manage operating costs while contributing to safer and more sustainable mobility.

Through its Eco-Driving Training program, HMP continues to empower drivers with the knowledge and skills to drive smarter, operate more efficiently, and get more value from every kilometer./PN
