ILOILO City – A fisherman was found dead off the port in Estancia, Iloilo.
His fellow fisherman found the body of 35-year-old Eugene Paguntalan floating in the municipal waters on Nov. 24.
Did he drown? Was he murdered? Police have yet to find answers.
Paguntalan, a resident of Barangay Macatunao, Concepcion town, had a head injury.
“As of now, we could not yet conclude [how he died],” said Chief Inspector Jonnah Calitcha, Estancia police head. “We are waiting for the autopsy result.”
His fellow FB Albert John crew member, Nano Nopito, saw Paguntalan’s body at around 10:30 a.m., some 600 meters away from the Estancia port where their boat was docked, a police report showed.
On the evening of Nov. 23, Paguntalan and the other crew members had a drinking binge with boat captain Gideon Francisco.
All drunk, the fishermen passed out. The following morning, they could no longer find Paguntalan, police said.
“All possible angles were being considered,” Calitcha said. “All crew members were under investigation.”/PN
