ILOILO City – Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix ruled the 2019 ILOPRISAA Meet secondary boys basketball via an 89-76 win over Sta. Clarita International School Primes at the University of San Agustin Gym.

Dave Bagatnan, Julian Maverick Puerto and Cedrick Manzano took turns on the offensive end for the Red Phoenix. They toppled the tough Primes in the championship match on Thursday night.

The Red Phoenix jumped to an early double-digit edge in the opening half but the Primes countered with a rally in the third period to momentarily seize the lead before Hua Siong regained its form to pull away for good.

“Credit goes to the players, especially to Dave and Julian. They have been consistent offensively all tournament long,” Red Phoenix head coach Vincent Conlu said.

Aside from secondary basketball, Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix Graders also dominated University of San Agustin, 70-37, in the gold medal match.

Paul Nino Balledos tallied 21 points, while Wesley Lana and Keith Berni Lauron added 20 and 15 markers, respectively, for the Red Phoenix Graders.

For SanAg, Chad Martin Suerte tallied 14 markers while Benn Gomez submitted eight points./PN
