‘Human, non-human bones in Boracay’

BORACAY — A medico-legal officer from the Police Regional Office 6 crime laboratory have examined the skeletal remains found in this island resort two weeks ago.

Chief Insp. Joe Martin Fuentes found out that the remains comprised two sets of bones.

Na-examine natin ang dalawang sets ng mga buto. Isang set sa tao at isa naman hindi galing sa tao,” said Fuentes.

Fuentes said the human remains belonged to a 12- to 17-year-old male who was 4’8″ tall and had been dead for approximately 30 years.

Hindi pa buo ang kanyang mga teeth. Lack of wisdom teeth (third molar) suggests the victim is under the age of 18. Ang forehead ng lalaki is also slightly slanting,” he said.

Workers in a construction site in Sitio Cagban, Brgy. Manoc-Manoc, unearthed the bones comprising a skull and three other pieces.

The medico-legal officer said he could not determine the ethnic origin of the human remains and the person’s cause of death.

Fuentes said the medico-legal report will be submitted to the police provincial Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO).

SOCO head Supt. Georby Manuel earlier said investigators were yet to find out if the site was whether a burial ground or a crime site.

More specifically, they want to know if the victim was whether a victim of summary execution or was indiscriminately buried in the area, he said.

Senior Supt. Samuel Nacion, police provincial director, also directed the Boracay Tourist Assistance Center under Senior Insp. Mark Evan Salvo to conduct a thorough investigation. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
