ILOILO City – Police authorities are bracing for a surge of crowds across churches and festival routes as the opening of Simbang Gabi 2025 and the Dinagyang 2026 Pamukaw coincide on December 16, prompting the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) to roll out expanded security measures citywide.
ICPO director Police Colonel Kim Legada said the city police force is fully prepared to handle the overlapping religious and cultural events under the Ligtas Paskuhan 2025 campaign, with heightened police visibility, traffic management, and close coordination with stakeholders.
Legada said all police units have been directed to intensify patrols and work closely with parish officials, barangay leaders, and Dinagyang organizers to ensure the smooth conduct of both activities.
“Our commitment is to safeguard every Ilonggo and visitor during these significant celebrations,” he said. “Through intensified police presence and the cooperation of the community, we are confident that Simbang Gabi and the Dinagyang 2026 Pamukaw will remain safe, peaceful, and orderly.”
The ICPO will deploy additional personnel to churches during early morning Simbang Gabi masses, while separate teams will be assigned to Dinagyang Pamukaw areas to manage crowds, prevent disturbances, and assist festival-goers.
Police Assistance Desks have been set up in churches, plazas, and other convergence points. The ICPO has also strengthened intelligence monitoring and mobilized barangay volunteers and other force multipliers to help maintain peace and order.
With increased foot traffic expected as the holiday season begins, police reminded the public to observe traffic advisories, refrain from bringing prohibited items to crowded venues, and promptly report any suspicious activities.
Authorities said the simultaneous kickoff of Simbang Gabi and the Dinagyang Pamukaw signals the start of a peak period for public gatherings in Iloilo City, requiring sustained vigilance in the days ahead./PN
