ILOILO — The municipal government of Igbaras has reopened all tourism-related activities after lifting a week-long suspension imposed due to hazardous weather brought about by the enhanced southwest monsoon, allowing hikers and visitors to return to the town’s popular mountain destinations starting Thursday, July 16.
Mayor Juvic Elmido Escorpion signed Executive Order No. 07-025, Series of 2026, lifting the suspension after authorities determined that weather and safety conditions, particularly in the municipality’s mountainous areas, had significantly improved.
The reopening restored access to Igbaras’ well-known hiking destinations, including Mounts Napulak, Opao, Taripis, Pulang Lupa, Lobok, Tingalon, Tigurang, Igatmon and Sansanan Peak, which regularly attract outdoor enthusiasts from across the region.
But despite the resumption of tourism activities, the local government reminded tourists and tourism stakeholders to remain vigilant, noting that rainfall remains unpredictable.
“In consideration of improved weather and safety conditions, tourism activities have officially resumed, with a continued emphasis on safety and precautionary measures. Visitors and tourism stakeholders are encouraged to remain cautious, stay prepared, keep updated on weather advisories, and stay alert to any sudden changes in weather conditions,” the Igbaras local government said in its advisory.
The municipal government also encouraged visitors to plan their trips carefully, support local livelihoods, and help promote responsible tourism while enjoying the town’s natural attractions.
On July 10, the local government ordered the suspension of all tourism-related activities after Super Typhoon Inday enhanced the Southwest Monsoon, bringing heavy rains and increasing the risk of landslides and other hazards in the municipality’s upland areas./PN
