ILOILO – Yo elevate the quality and market appeal of local bamboo products, the provincial government has launched a specialized training program on sustainable dyeing techniques for bamboo artisans in Balasan town.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO) in partnership with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) – Iloilo, targeted members of the Timipal Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative. It is part of the province’s broader campaign to enhance grassroots enterprises and livelihood programs that make use of indigenous materials.
Participants received hands-on training on eco-friendly dyeing processes, product design, and skills aimed at making their bamboo crafts more competitive in the local and national markets. The training also emphasized creativity and environmental responsibility, key to preserving traditional crafts while adapting to evolving market demands.
“This is not just about training people to color bamboo,” said a provincial official. “It’s about giving them tools to innovate, to earn better, and to keep their craftsmanship alive in a modern economy.”
The program was conducted under the banner of the Iloilo Technology and Livelihood Development Center (ITLDC), which continues to provide technical assistance and livelihood support to cooperatives across the province./PN
