Iloilo-bound shooting suspect nabbed on bus

ROXAS City – A suspect in shooting a construction worker to death had been arrested while on board a bus bound for Iloilo City.

The 21-year-old John Devera of Philippine Railway Street in Barangay 9 allegedly had a hand in the killing of the 44-year-old Barangay Sibugan resident Roland Divinagracia.

Divinagracia was shot while driving his motorcycle around 6:15 a.m. on Friday in Barangay Dinginan Centro, a police report showed.

Divinagracia died of five gunshot wounds on the different parts of the body, the report added.

One of the two suspects, who were also riding a motorcycle, was Devera, police said. He was arrested later on Friday in Leganes, Iloilo.

The other suspect was still unidentified as of this writing.

Police said personal grudge was the motive in the shooting.

Divinagracia’s wife Jona told investigators that her husband’s uncle and Devera had an altercation in a construction site at Pueblo de Panay in Barangay Lawaan on June 30.

She added that Divinagracia interfered when Devera tried to stab his uncle.

Si Devera isa sa persons of interest base sa mga ebidensya nga aton nakuha. Ginahulat pa naton ang result sang paraffin test,” Tayco said.

Devera was detained at the Roxas City police station lockup facility.

A murder charge will be filed against him today after police secured an affidavit from witnesses./PN
