ILOILO City – Effective today, people in this southern city can ditch face shields, according to Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Treñas said he would send a letter to the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) requesting to amend the Face Mask/Face Shield Ordinance.
“Nag-obra (ako) sulat sa city council para nga ang ordinance i-amend ta na… We will give notice to everyone we are no longer implementing (the use of face shields),” said Treñas.
However, the mayor clarified that as to the wearing of face shields inside hospitals, it is their protocols that must be followed.
The amended ordinance would not anymore make mandatory the wearing of face shields and masks in malls, markets, schools, commercial establishments, office buildings, and public utility vehicles.
It will instead give people the option to wear, in lieu of face shields, eye protectors such as prescription eyeglasses, goggles, or visor-type face shields.
