ILOILO City – In a step toward uplifting solo parents, the city government has begun distributing financial aid under the newly enacted Comprehensive Solo Parent Ordinance, which aims to provide much-needed support to single caregivers within the community.
As part of the initiative, 196 eligible solo parents have already received their P1,000 monthly cash subsidy.
The aid is intended for those earning below the minimum wage, and the city is continuing to validate applications for additional beneficiaries.
To qualify, applicants must be residents of Iloilo City for at least two years and undergo an assessment conducted by the district City Social Welfare and Development Office.
Beyond financial support, the ordinance also ensures that solo parents have access to essential services such as a seven-day parental leave after six months of employment and a 10% discount on their children’s needs.
It also gives priority to solo parents when applying for livelihood assistance, helping them to secure better economic opportunities.
To enforce compliance, the ordinance sets stringent penalties for businesses that fail to uphold its provisions, including potential fines or the revocation of business permits.
It also penalizes those who falsify documents to claim benefits, with penalties escalating for repeated offenses. (Philippine News Agency/PN)
