ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Government and the Iloilo Tourism Foundation, Inc. formalized their partnership on May 5 through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) aimed at enhancing and promoting tourism-related initiatives.

The agreement also lays the groundwork for the reconstitution of the Iloilo City Tourism Council.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas led the MOA signing, alongside Iloilo Tourism Foundation, Inc. President Joseph Del Rosario, Vice Chairman Dr. Sandra Gomez, City Tourism Officer Junel Ann Divinagracia, and Assistant Tourism Officer and Iloilo City MICE Center director Maria Lea Victoria Lara.

The MOA signing was followed by the oath-taking ceremony of the newly appointed members of the Tourism Council, many of whom are affiliated with the private foundation.

Lara said one of the key provisions of the MOA is the amendment of the City Tourism Code, which has not been updated since 2013. The revisions aim to align the code with the Philippine Tourism Plan and address the evolving needs of the local tourism industry.

Lara highlighted the need to update several aspects of the code, including the city’s tour circuits, gastronomy initiatives, and the incorporation of new ordinances related to Iloilo City’s Meetings Incentives Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE)./PN
