BACOLOD City – Two residents of this city were found dead in a sugarcane field in Hacienda San Roque, Barangay Cubay, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, around 8:30 a.m. on May 4.
Authorities said the victims were positively identified by their respective live-in partners as aliases “Atong”, 32, and “Follow-up”, 29, both residents of Barangay 6.
According to Captain Rosinie Cabuena, deputy chief of the La Carlota City Police Station, Follow-up was previously jailed in October 2024 for theft and released earlier this year.
Police said there were bruises on the victims’ bodies, suggesting possible torture. As of this writing, they were awaiting post-mortem results to determine the exact cause of death.
Initial investigation revealed that the bodies were discovered by hacienda worker, alias “Rey”, partially buried in the middle of the sugarcane field.
Rey was roving within the vicinity of the hacienda when he made the discovery after he saw a newly dug pit.
Police said the victims were last seen by their families on Saturday morning, May 3./PN
