Iloilo City logs 17 fire incidents last month

ILOILO City – A total of 17 fire incidents were recorded in this city throughout March.

Data from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Iloilo City showed that of the 17 reported cases, 11 were structural fires while six were non-structural.

Among the most tragic incidents was a March 8 blaze in Barangay Infante, Molo district which killed three members of a family. The victims were Lloyd Reyes and Lowelyn Reyes, both 40 years old and teachers at Iloilo City National High School, and their seven-year-old daughter, Amber Marie.

Chief Arson Investigator Denmark Macoco of BF-Iloilo City said the number of fire incidents significantly dropped this year compared to 2024, which saw a total of 51 cases — including 16 structural fires, 34 non-structural, and one vehicular fire.

BFP-Iloilo City expressed optimism that the downward trend in fire incidents will continue./PN
