Iloilo City police bolster security for the holidays

ILOILO CITY – In preparation for the upcoming holiday season, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) is ramping up its security measures to ensure public safety. Colonel Joeresty Coronica, the ICPO Director, emphasized the importance of public vigilance and promised to enhance police visibility across the city.

“With the expectation of increased foot traffic for leisure and shopping activities, especially with people receiving bonuses, it’s crucial to strengthen our police presence to safeguard all those out and about,” stated Colonel Coronica.

He assured residents and visitors that Iloilo City would remain a peaceful, orderly, safe, and secure destination during the holidays. This security reinforcement is a proactive response to the anticipated surge of people in the city for the season’s celebrations.

Colonel Coronica has directed station commanders to station officers at key locations, including assistance hubs, places of worship, commercial centers, road safety points, seaports, and public transport terminals. Additionally, there will be an uptick in police personnel during night shifts, particularly near churches, in the lead-up to the traditional Simbang Gabi and the Dinagyang Festival 2024.

Mobile patrol units, equipped with blinkers, are also set to be deployed in areas prone to crime, establishing a strong police presence to deter any illegal activities or schemes.

“We are committed to preventing any opportunity for crime during this festive season. As people rejoice and reflect on the birth of Jesus Christ, we want to ensure a safe environment free from criminal elements. Public cooperation is key in achieving this goal,” Coronica added.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the authorities as part of a collective effort to maintain the city’s festive yet secure atmosphere./PN
