ILOILO City – The city government here halted its coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination for walk-ins every Thursday and will focus on house-to-house inoculation starting next week.
According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, the city government vaccination teams will go to the barangays starting Monday, Aug. 30, for the whole week.
“We cannot continue with the open vaccinations in the meantime since our vaccinators will go to nine barangays every day with a target of 7,200 daily,” Treñas explained.
But he assured that walk-ins who got their first dose will be given second doses at the scheduled time.
With increasing cases of the Delta variant of the virus causing COVID-19, barangay officials requested that vaccination teams visit villages. Treñas said herd immunity in the city can be achieved at the earliest possible time.
Twenty-five barangays in the city have been identified for the house-to-house vaccination. These are in Jaro (San Isidro, Sambag, Ungka, Balabago, Bito-on, and Cubay); La Paz (Baldoza and Caingin); City Proper (Sto. Rosario, Veterans Village, Concepcion, Estanzuela, Rizal Pala-Pala I, Rizal Pala-Pala II, Tanza Baybay, and Bonifacio); Mandurriao (Bakhaw, Bolilao and Taft North); Molo (Boulevard and San Juan); Arevalo (Calaparan, Sto. Niño Norte and Sto. Niño Sur); Lapuz (Bo. Obrero and Mansaya).
Treñas expressed elation over the number of people from outside the city vaccinated for free when the city government opened its vaccination for all.
He was also grateful to those who supported the smooth-sailing process in the vaccination roll out.
The mayor acknowledged the contribution of the vaccination site managers, barangay captains, and officials, vaccinators, City Health Office, Public Safety and Transportation Management Office, General Services Office, Philippine National Police, and volunteers, among others.
He thanked schools and malls for allowing the city to use their facilities for free./PN
