ILOILO City – A South Korean non-government organization (NGO) donated six ambulances to rural health units and district hospitals in Iloilo province.
Medipeace is an international health NGO. Its recipients were the following:
* Rep. Pedro G. Trono Memorial District Hospital in Guimbal town
* Ramon D. Duremdes District Hospital in Dumangas
* Ramon Tabiana Memorial District Hospital in Cabatuan
* Sara District Hospital
* rural health unit of Concepcion, and
* rural health unit of Miagao.
The ambulances (Hyundai Starex vans) were compliant with the requirements of the Department of Health and Land Transportation Office.
Only portable defibrillators were lacking but the local government units of recipient hospitals committed to acquire these.
Last year, Medipeace also donated three ambulances to Iloilo district hospitals.
The donated ambulances are expected to improve the capability of the six municipalities in the delivery of basic health services.
Dr. Helen Minguez, municipal health officer of Concepcion, welcomed the donation.
“Concepcion is 108 kilometers away from Iloilo City. It is difficult for us to refer patients to other hospitals if we don’t have an ambulance,” said Minguez.
The rural health center of Concepcion serves an average of 80 patients a day, she revealed./PN
