ILOILO – The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) created special teams to run after wanted persons and unlicensed firearms.
The provincial police will be stepping up its campaign against these now that the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency has taken the lead in the antidrug war, said Senior Superintendent Harold Tuzon, IPPO director.
There are three special teams with at least eight members.
“We can now focus on criminal activities other than drug trafficking,” said Tuzon.
While he ordered police units of each town to list down their 10 most wanted persons, the IPPO special teams’ first task was to arrest the 10 top fugitives in the province. These fugitives were the following:
*Elmer Agnes of Barangay Agtabo, Passi City – murder and frustrated murder
*Joan Fajardo of Barangay Poblacion West Mina – robbery with homicide
* Severo Segumban of Barangay Abilay Norte, Oton – robbery with homicide
* Armand Tayoba of Barangay Bantud, Tigbauan – robbery with homicide
* Rodella Gallego of Barangay Pandan, Lambunao – two counts of murder
* Gilbert Lavilla of Lambunao – murder and frustrated murder
* Dante Sacaton of Barangay Ban-ag, Alimodian – murder
* Ricky Balquin of Barangay Tuburan, Passi City – murder with the use of unlicensed firearm
* Christopher Ronquillo of Barangay Poblacion East, Oton – murder
* Arnie Besas of Barangay Igbong, Barotac Nuevo – murder with the use of unlicensed firearm.
Tuzon described these men as armed and dangerous.
Due to scalawags in the ranks of the Philippine National Police, Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa suspended indefinitely the police’s war on drugs.
“I dissolved the Anti-Illegal Drugs Group, all anti-drug units from the national, local to the police station level,” Dela Rosa announced on Jan. 30.
The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), however, clarified that the police would still help PDEA by acting as “supporting units.”
“We could no longer spearhead antidrug operations but we are still the supporting units of PDEA, the lead agency. We will not stop our campaign, we will still help them,” said Gorero.
He also said antidrug barangay-clearing operations in Western Visayas will continue.
Gorero won’t confirm or deny the presence of scalawags in the PRO-6 but said there will be unannounced drug tests to catch those into the destructive vice.
The PRO-6 will also be subjecting policemen to lifestyle checks, Gorero said./PN
