ILOILO City — The Iloilo City Government has moved to extend immediate financial and livelihood assistance to an Ilonggo seafarer injured in a Russian drone attack near Ukraine, assuring his family of support while national agencies work on his repatriation.
The city has already earmarked P10,000 in emergency financial assistance for the overseas Filipino worker (OFW), with Mayor Raisa Treñas also directing city offices to provide additional aid to the victim’s family as needed.
Public Employment Service Office (PESO) head Gabriel Felix Umadhay said the assistance package is ready and only awaits the family’s visit to the PESO office to complete the necessary processing.
The city government has also begun coordinating with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to facilitate the seafarer’s eventual return to the Philippines and ensure he receives all available government assistance.
Umadhay said city officials are working to reach the victim’s family even as they await complete personal information about the injured seafarer.
According to PESO, the injured Ilonggo is one of three seafarers from Iloilo who sustained injuries after the vessel they were serving aboard was struck in a Russian drone attack off Ukraine.
City officials said they remain ready to provide further assistance as the repatriation process moves forward and additional support becomes necessary for the victim and his family./PN
