ILOILO City – Police arrested a local fashion designer on Wednesday. The Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 38 issued an arrest warrant over multiple cyber libel complaints.
Jose Clement “Jet” Salcedo, 43, was a resident of Mandurriao district. He was apprehended on January 28 by operatives of the Iloilo City Mobile Force Company, with support from Police Station 2 and intelligence units.
Salcedo faces 10 counts of cyber libel under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, each carrying a bail of 36,000, or a total of P360,000.
Police identified him as Iloilo City’s second most wanted person at the time of his arrest, which took place at around 10:25 a.m. in Barangay Nabitasan, La Paz district.
Brigadier General Josefin Ligan, director of the Police Regional Office 6, lauded the arresting team, saying, “I commend our police for this successful operation, which reflects our commitment to uphold the rule of law and seure the safety of our communities.”
The charges stem from a reported social media dispute between Salcedo and Ilongga chef Andrea Valdez Gorriceta, a former friend.
Although Gorriceta was not directly named in the posts, the Iloilo City Prosecutor’s Office found probable cause, citing contextual evidence that linked the remarks to her, particularly after their friendship reportedly ended in July 2023.
Salcedo has denied the accusations and has filed counter-affidavits. In a social media post, he said, “Yes, I am aware of it (the case)…I didn’t kill anybody. I didn’t scam anybody. I didn’t extort from anybody,” while maintaining his innocence.
After his arrest, Salcedo was taken to Iloilo City Police Station 2. As of this writing, he was processing his bail./PN
