ILOILO City — To enhance public service delivery, the Iloilo Provincial Government has released P212.94 million in financial assistance to public schools, local government units (LGUs), and uniformed personnel across the province.
The funds are intended to support initiatives in education, agriculture, disaster resilience, and public safety.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. personally turned over the checks to the beneficiaries during the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) Special Meeting on December 23.
A significant portion of the aid, P125.32 million, was allocated to education programs and projects. Provincial School Board Secretary Maria Freda Fajardo said the support is designed to address classroom gaps and strengthen learning environments in schools with the greatest need.
“Gov. Defensor underscores the importance of this initiative, noting that investing in quality classrooms is investing in the quality of education itself,” Fajardo said.
The financial assistance from the provincial government includes P125.32 million allocated to schools and municipalities for education-related programs and projects, and P58.32 million for disaster risk reduction and adaptation initiatives of local government units. P6 million has been designated for LGU-led agriculture projects, while P15.3 million is set aside for the Iloilo Police Provincial Office Defense Center and operational expenses.
Additional support includes P1 million for the procurement of goods for the CAFGU Active Auxiliary, P4 million for the establishment of the 6th Regional Community Defense Group, and P3 million for the provision of a service vehicle to the 6th Regional Community Defense Group of the RESCOM Philippine Army.
The financial assistance aims to improve public school infrastructure, strengthen agricultural programs, support municipal community defense initiatives, and enhance the capabilities of law enforcement and security forces in maintaining peace and order across Iloilo.
The provincial government also held a ceremonial turnover of a service vehicle to the Iloilo Police Provincial Office and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, further underscoring its commitment to public safety and community service./PN
