ILOILO – Crime incidents in Iloilo Province dropped significantly in 2025, with police reporting double-digit declines in both major and minor offenses, signaling an improving peace and order situation.
During the 1st Quarter Peace and Order Council Meeting on Monday, March 23, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) disclosed that index crimes fell by 17.49%, from 852 cases in 2024 to 703 in 2025, while non-index crimes declined by 9.96%, from 2,672 to 2,406 cases.
The downward trend covered several major crime categories. Cases of murder dipped from 79 to 77, homicide dropped from 41 to 36, rape decreased from 212 to 201, and physical injuries saw a steep fall from 186 to 142. Robbery incidents went down from 74 to 71, while carnapping recorded a notable drop from 31 to 19 cases.
Non-index crimes also showed consistent reductions, with violations of special laws decreasing from 1,312 to 1,161 cases, other non-index offenses declining from 955 to 887, and attempted or frustrated crimes dropping from 405 to 358.
Index crimes are serious offenses that are used to gauge the overall crime situation in an area. They are often reported to higher authorities for statistical purposes and include violent and property crimes.
Police officials emphasized that index crimes remain a priority for law enforcement due to their direct impact on public safety and security, while non-index crimes cover less serious violations such as local ordinance breaches, minor assaults, fraud, and gambling-related offenses.
These figures indicate sustained efforts to enhance public safety and security in the province, according to the IPPO.
The Iloilo Provincial Government commended the IPPO for its continued dedication and effective implementation of law enforcement strategies that contributed to the decline in crime.
“The downward trend in crime rates also highlights the strong collaboration among law enforcement agencies, local government units, and the community in maintaining peace and order throughout Iloilo Province,” it said in a statement.
