MANILA – Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers ended their 11-game losing skid with a 25-19, 25-22, 25-21 sweep over San Beda University Lady Red Spikers in the NCAA Season 100 women’s volleyball tournament on Tuesday at the Playtime FilOil Center in San Juan.

Ilongga Nicole Deala starred in the match with 15 points from 13 attacks and two service aces, earning her thePlayer of the Game honors as the Lady Bombers improved their record to 2-14.

Deala stated that they were determined to end their losing streak after previously defeating San Beda in the first round of eliminations on March 6, 25-22, 25-23, 25-22.

“Our mindset was to replicate our success against them since we had already beaten them in the first round,” Deala said after the game. “Our coaches advised us to enjoy the game because it is for us as well.”

Deala also expressed gratitude for the trust the coaches have in her, noting that as a second-year player on the team, it is essential for her to contribute and fulfill her role.

The Lady Red Spikers, on the other hand, also share the same record of 2-14 after the loss.

Meanwhile, Mapua University Lady Cardinals rode on another solid outing from Freighanne Garcia to oust San Sebastian College-Recoletos Lady Stags, 25-16, 25-16, 25-21.

The sophomore hitter tallied a team-high of 21 points, built on 17 attacks, two blocks, and two service aces, as the Lady Cardinals moved closer to securing a Final Four seat with their 11-5 win-loss slate.

After easy wins in the first two sets, the Lady Cardinals were pushed to the limit in the third frame with the score tied at 20-all before they leaned on four straight points by Garcia and Therese Manalo for a 24-20 lead.

The Lady Stags still managed to save a match point before Garcia secured the straight set victory for the Lady Cardinals with an off-the-block connection.

“Hindi nawawala kasi sa amin na kapag nakukuha namin ‘yung first two sets nagre-relax kami pero buti nakuha pa rin namin,” Garcia said./PN
