MANILA – Ilongga rider Ariana Evangelista took home silver and bronze medals in the women’s mountain bike event of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games at the Kulen Mountain in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
The Iloilo City native settled for a silver medal finish in the MTB Cross-Country Eliminator (XCE) on Monday after being outsprinted by gold medal winner Dara Latifah from Indonesia.
Evangelista also got a bronze medal in the 14.80-km cycling event, which was raced over a 3.7-km circuit last Sunday, along with Shagne Yaoyao, EJ Flores and Jerico Rivera.
Ilonggo Phillip Delarmino, meanwhile, ended with bronze in men’s combat 60 kilogram category of Cambodian sport kun bokator after losing to Cambodian Chet Chon in the semifinals, 3-0.
The Dumangas, Iloilo native Delarmino is a gold medal winner in muay thai during the 31st SEA Games last year in Hanoi, Vietnam but the sports was removed in this year’s SEA Games in favor of local Cambodian sport kun khmer.
Fernando Casares captured his second consecutive gold medal in the men’s triathlon event while compatriot Andre Kim Remolino settled for a bronze finish for his second medal in the biennial event.
Kim Mangrobang, meanwhile, saw her SEA Games women’s triathlon dominance snapped after settling for silver medal against Margot Garabedian, a naturalized player of Cambodia from France.
Jamie Lim, on the other hand, returned to her rightful place on top of the SEA Games karate world by winning the gold medal in the women’s -61kg women’s individual kumite with a 3-1 victory over Cambodian Vann Chakriya in the title match.
Karate also contributed four silver medals courtesy of kumite fighters Matthew Manantan (men’s -67 kg), Ivan Agustin (-84 kg), Remon Misu (-68 kg women) and Ariane Brito (+68kg women).
Marc Alexander Lim, for his part, finally captured a jiu jitsu gold medal when he defeated Vietnam’s Dang Dinh Tung in their title duel for the men’s ne-waza nogi 69 kilogram gold medal.
Meggie Ochoa ended with silver in women’s ne-waza nogi 52kg, while Ian Patrick Gurrobat and Lesly Romero (mixed show pair), Estie Gay Liwanen and Christopher Gallego (mixed duo) and Jan Cortez (men’s ne-waza nogi -56kg.) ended with bronze.
The women’s soft tennis squad of Bien Zoleta-Mañalac and Princess Catindig also captured a gold medal for the country by beating Thailand’s Chatmanee Jankiaw and Napawee Jankiaw, 5-2, in the finals.
Sibol Pilipinas also delivered a gold medal in esports on late Sunday night following a 3-1 victory over Vietnam in the finals of League of Legends: Wild Rift event.
In swimming, Jerard Jacinto took home a silver medal in men’s 50-meter backstroke as he set a Philippine record of 25.56 seconds, while Teia Salvino won a bronze medal in women’s 50-meter backstroke.
In vovinam, Team Philippines took a silver medal courtesy of Emmanuel Cantores (men’s 60 kg) and bronze medals from Jovan Medallo (men’s sun-moon broadsword), Rhenel Desuyo (men’s 65 kg) and Jerlyn Kingas (women’s 55 kg).
In pencak silat, Abad brothers’ Alfau Jan and Al-mohaidib won a silver in male seni ganda (artistic bouble), while the trio of Jessa Dela Cruz, Shara Julia Jizmundo and Franchette Anne Elman bagged the bronze medal in seni regu (artistic trio) Female event.
Team Philippines also has three bronzes in kun khmer courtesy of Jenelyn Olsim in women’s 54 kg category, Floryvic Montero in women’s 48 kg and Rhichein Yosorez in women’s combat 45 kg./PN
