MANILA – After failing to win one during her three seasons with the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, Roma Mae Doromal is hoping to taste a championship in the Premier Volleyball League.

According to the PVL rookie aspirant, it was one of her motivations going to whatever team that will select her during the inaugural Rookie Draft tonight at the Novotel Manila Araneta City.

“’Yun talaga ‘yung pinanghahawakan ko rin this time, hindi pa ako nakaka-championship,” she said. “Hopefully talaga sa PVL magawaan ko siya ng paraan and ‘yun, magkaroon ng championship.”

Aside from her championship hunger, Doromal said she will also bring her leadership experience and skills that she developed under the guidance of Blue Eagles mentor Sergio Veloso.

“I feel like other than sa skills na naipon ko, siguro ‘yung leadership talaga inside the court (ang madadala ko sa PVL). Hinelp kasi ako ni Coach Sergio to become a leader talaga,” Doromal said.

“’Yung mga skills din na tinuro in terms sa technicalities, ‘yun talaga ‘yung mahe-help ko,” she added. “Very open talaga ako [to improve] with kung sino man ‘yung team na sasalihan ko, very open ako with a lot of inputs so exciting.”

Meanwhile, Negrense aspirant Maicah Larroza is willing to adjust to any playing role that will be given by the team that selects her in the first-ever PVL draft.

“Depende po sa team na maka-pick sa akin kung outside hitter or libero. Kahit anong role naman po ‘yung ibigay sa akin ie-embrace ko naman po siya,” Larroza said.

She added: “Mao-offer ko sa kanila, sa magiging teammates ko… Siguro they can depend on me every time na ipapasok ako sa court, and kaya kong mag-lead offensively man or defensively inside the court.”

Larroza had her moments for the Lady Spikers in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament, stepping up in the absence of Angel Canino due to a “non-volleyball-related injury.”

The Bacolod City native volleybelle particularly shone in the DLSU game against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, achieving a triple-double with 12 points, 14 digs, and 10 receptions./PN
