MANILA – Ilongga spiker Melysa Canaya is set to don the colors of the Arellano University Lady Chiefs in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
The Iloilo City-native said that it is her dream to play for the NCAA women’s volleyball defending champions.
“Arellano University is my dream school since I was young. Being part of the team (now) is a great opportunity. I went there for a tryout last year and luckily I was selected,” Canaya told Panay News.
The five-foot-eight Canaya will see action with the seniors squad in Season 96 after representing Arellano’s high school team in Season 95 which got cancelled due to coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
The Ilongga entry to the team also came at the right time after former Most Valuable Player Regine Arocha decided not to return next season even if NCAA plans to adjust the eligibility rules following the cancellation of Season 95.
Canaya was one of the top volleybelles of the Ramon Avanceña National High School in Iloilo City’s Arevalo district. She also represented the Western Visayas team that finished third runner-up in the Palarong Pambansa during her elementary years./PN
