MANILA – Ilonggo Denver Cuello made a triumphant boxing return after four years. He scored a second round stoppage win over Indonesian Jack Amisa to claim the ABF bantamweight title at the Angono Rizal Gymnasium.

The Cabatuan, Iloilo native Cuello hardly showed any ring rust on Friday night. He dominated his Indonesian foe in his first boxing match since winning over Thailand pug Boy Tanto in 2015.

Cuello immediately pushed the pace in the opening round. He pummeled Amisa with combination hits before going for the kill in the second round by flooring his foe with a straight.

“I am just glad to be able to comeback in boxing. This win shows that I still have it,” Cuello said. “I am just thankful to those who trusted me that I can still make a comeback even if I am away for four years.”

The 32-year-old Cuello increased his boxing slate to 37-5-6 win-loss-draw, including 25 stoppage wins, while Amisa saw his boxing record dropped to 21-46-2, with 14 knockout victories.

Meanwhile, Negrense fighter Sonny Boy Jaro also had a victorious return inside the squared ring after dropping veteran Indonesian fighter Boido Simanjuntak in just four rounds.

The Silay City native Jaro, a former WBC flyweight champion, did not missed a beat even if he has been away for a year as he dominated Simanjuntak with punches to the body and the head until the match was stopped in the fourth round.

The boxing card dubbed as “Return of the Champions” was presented by Highland and DMAD International Promotions in coordination with the Angono, Rizal local government./PN
