ILOILO – Young math wizards from Iloilo City and Capiz Province brought home medals from the recently concluded Philippine International Mathematical Olympiad (PHIMO) 2023.
Iloilo City’s Luiz Miguel Doligosa of Philippine Science High School snatched a gold medal, while Jozef Raphael Doligosa of PAREF Westbridge and Gihun Ng Yoo of St. Joseph School each bagged bronze medals in the PHIMO Final Round.
In July, Gihum won a silver medal at the World Mathematics Invitational 2023 Final Round at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea.
Mathletes from C.H.I.L.D.’s Academy, Inc. in Roxas City, Capiz also bagged medals and recognitions at the PHIMO.
Awarded with bronze medals were Ryan Tobias Aldea (Primary 1), Danielle Seth Laurente (Primary 2), Lauren Pauelle Del Rosario (Primary 4), Dominic Aguro (Primary 6) and Ramon Lorenzo Chu (Secondary 1).
Meanwhile, the following were recognized as Merit Awardees: Caden James Matusa (Primary 1), Zylea Lourdes Andrada (Primary 3), Anya Yssabel Georgina Deocampo (Primary 5), Euan Matteo Magbanua (Primary 5), Euie Mattea Magbanua (Primary 5), Ramon Carlos Chu (Primary 5) and Joaquin Paulo Ong (Primary 6).
Ms. Aira B. Bigcas was conferred with the Outstanding Coach Award.
The annual battle of the brains was held in Davao City on Sept. 22 to 25./PN
