ILONGGO Muay Thai athletes took home 10 medals – six gold, three silver and a bronze – in the 2017 Muay Thai National Open in Dumaguete City.
Winning gold medals in the Advanced category were Michael Orano of Fort San Pedro National High School (junior male, 63kg) and Fritz John Estrella of Mandurriao National High School (senior male, 63kg).
Gold medalists in the Novice category were Jiffy Abacajin of Ramon Avanceña National High School (junior male, 57kg), Darius dela Cruz of Mandurriao National High School (senior male, 60kg), Alexis Awit of St. Therese-MTC Colleges (senior male, 63.5kg), and Noemer Lastimoso of Mandurriao Elementary School (junior male, 12–13 kg).
Silver medalists were Miah Claveria of Ramon Avanceña National High School (junior female, 51kg), Niño Gaitan of Mandurriao National High School (junior male, 54kg) and Paiton Rey Gaitan of Mandurriao National High School (senior male, 54kg).
Joemar Bayang bagged the lone bronze medal in the senior male, 54kg Advanced.
The Iloilo delegation was under the wing of coaches Rho Fajutrao and Johnny Estrella.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog assured that the Iloilo City government will support the Muay Thai athletes in their future competitions, Rommel Castro of the City Sports Development Division told Panay News.
Other winners were from the component city of Passi in Iloilo province: (Novice) Alfaro Jonah Gabriel, silver, junior male 14–15, 45kg; Kent Veo, silver, junior male, 57kg; Arwin Dureza, silver, senior male, 60kg; (Advanced) Angelo Aguilar, silver, junior male, 14–15 years old; and James Dave Palmes, gold, junior male, 54kg, 16–17 years old.
