MANILA – Three Iloilo City-based jins were named to the Smart/MVP Sports Foundation National Kyorugi and Poomsae Team that will compete in the 2022 Asian Cadet/Junior/ ParaTaekwondo Championships later this month in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Justin James Diasnes, Elizabeth Marie Borres and Julianna Martha Uy of A. Diasnes Taekwondo Gym were named as part of the 45-player Philippine delegation for the competition slated from Aug. 22 to 27.
Diasnes is set to compete in the Kyorugi Cadet Male event, Borres in the Poomsae Junior Female category and Uy in the Poomsae Senior Female category, according to Alfie Diasnes.
“As one of their trainers, proud ako sa ila at a young age ay nakasulod sila for Team Philippines as well ka-compete and represent sila for our Region 6,” Ariel said in a statement.
Diasnes is a member of Central Philippine University Golden Lions taekwondo team, while both Borres and Uy were products of the Ateneo de Iloilo women’s taekwondo squad.
The Philippine delegation is headed by Taekwondo Philippine Secretary General Raul Samson, Kyorugi coaches Devy John Singson and Carlos Jose Padilla and Poomsae coaches Rani Ortega and Rodolfo Reyes Jr.
Joining Diasnes in the kyorugi were Cyrus Rodan Sinugbojan, Renzo Maverick Gavilanes, John Joseph Timothy Melicado, Jose Jacob Cartagena, John Renzo Balido, Legolas Peñaredondo Vince Raiane Santianez, Allain Keanu Ganapin (Para Player), Kent John Banzon, Rodito Sinugbojan, Ethan Jervey Dayne Chavez, Abram Josiah Resimo, Juan Victorio Ongsiako Yamat and Kurt Jyrus Emboltura.
Also with Borres and Uy in the women’s team were Merica Lillyn Chan, Tachiana Keizha Mangin, Bob Andrew Fabella, Eljay Marco Vista, Jose Lucas Llarena, Caleb Angelo Calde, Dean Darnet Venerable, Paul Anthony Rodriguez, Ian Matthew Corton, Joshua Aaron Erece, Andrea Marie Benocilla, Felicity Jana Castel, Caitlyn Julia Carlos, Ryane Joie De Juan, Casey de Leon, Acey Kiana Oglayon, Sophia Jane Dorado, Maria Nicole Anne Labayne, Aesha Kiara Oglayon and Antonette Medallada.
“I am proud of their qualification to the national taekwondo team. All of their hard work and dedication in training despite the pandemic has paid off,” said A. Diasnes coach Flora Navales.
“We at A. Diasnes will always support our taekwondo jins who will be called up to play for flag and country and it is an honor also for us coaches. We are rooting for their success,” she added./PN
